In Nahua (Aztec) philosophy, every person carries three sacred life forces that give shape to our being and guide how we move through the world.

Tonalli – Located in the head, it is the vital energy linked to identity, destiny, and consciousness.

Teyolia – Held in the heart, it embodies emotion, love, memory, and wisdom.

The seat of compassion and deep knowing.

Ihiyotl – Rooted in the breath and liver, it is the force of passion, courage, and vitality.

The spark that connects us to movement, creation, and life.

Tonalli refers to the animating life force or sacred energy that resides within each of us. It is the warmth of the sun within the human spirit. The inner light that guides our purpose, vitality, and sense of connection. When life brings trauma, loss, or disconnection, our tonalli can feel dimmed or fragmented, leaving us feeling distant from our truest selves.
